Why I wanted to be part of the curling tour :
I have enjoyed curling since being introduced to it with the opening of Letham Grange Ice rink a couple of miles from home in the mid eights. It became my main pastime so much so that it became conditional with my employers that I would be given time off if the Grand Match ever again occurred. I have travelled around the world for work (including St Johns, Newfoundland) however the Strathcona cup tour shall be for pleasure and camaraderie in the best traditions of curling.
Hobbies / Interests :
- Curling – having retired last summer, I can curl as much as my wife will allow every winter, generally 2-3 times a week. I started retirement by researching Evenie Water Curling Club’s history and had published for our 150th Anniversary this year.
- House building – I built my own house some 30 plus years ago. It was a 10-year plan but ended up a little longer (think Petrocelli). My son has now purchased a 10-acre field and ruined cottage which we have now started to construct his self-build house.
- I’m chairman of the local village hall which we successfully applied for funding to modernise and now have a super local facility.
