The traditional previous tour (or this time tours) versus the new tourists match took place on 4 December. It was hosted by Lanarkshire Ice Rink (Hamilton) and credit is due to them for the excellent ice, the generous catering and the warm welcome. The result was secondary (in other words 2023 tourists lost) but was close: the combined previous tourists 69 the new tourists 63. The real winner, however, was the spirit of curling with warmth, good humour and bonhomie spread through-out the day.
For the new tourists, hearing first hand the experiences of the previous tourists was inspiring and Joe Barrie’s singing brought home the importance of song. The rendition of the new tour song by the new tourists was better than expected and the 2013 choirmaster was polite enough to offer praise. Something to build on. Finally, the distribution of blue blazers carrying with it the recognition of representing Scotland was a significant moment for the new tourists. Only 38 sleeps to go. Bring it on.
