East Tour Diary Day 8

At 7.58 morning class Dougie ran over the order of the events today with Tamnavulin sitting out game 1 at CFB Halifax and Dave Kingan giving the vote of thanks. Then on to Truro where Fettercairn have a bye and George Bee giving the vote of thanks. The missing bags will may be delivered to our next hotel in time for us to wear No. ones. The sheriff announced that as tour funds are very healthy fines were only issued to Doug Wilson, Dougie Reid and Dave McKay and clear favourite George Paterson was awarded the Tammie. Team Jura were presented with Doddie as team of the day.

We set off at 9.15 with new driver Robert for CFB Halifax and arrived 10 minutes later. We were greeted by Strathcona representative Ralph Murphy and then piped through a broom arch and welcomed by club president commander Nicholas Buxton and base commander Captain (navy) Andy McKenzie. After changing we were piped out onto the ice for the last time by Angus and sang Flower of Scotland. There followed some good curling with the result of two games going to the last end, neither of which went our way and the only victory was team Jura skipped by Jim Barr. The overall result was two shots up to the tourists. We were then treated to a delicious lunch of burgers and apple or blueberry pie with ice cream. Speeches were given by Nicholas Buxton and Ralph Murphy with Dave Kingan delivering the vote of thanks.

After saying our farewell’s we set of for Truro and we’re welcomed by Glen Ross and then piped on to the ice by piper Terry White. The piper then played Flower of Scotland which we sang with Gusto and then Kent Loughend sang the Canadian Anthem. We experienced reading the ice with the result that we only won one game, losing the other three, two badly resulting in an overall 19 shots down. Our missing bags had been delivered to our hotel and we changed into our No. ones for the banquet at 7pm.The ladies of Truro had prepared a delicious three course meal which was served by the MacIsaac junior boys team. We were then treated to someNova Scotian music by Gerry Post, Verne and Terry Herne and Ron Keal. Then it was our turn to entertain with our six man sketch, I have a dream and our tour song. The Nova Scotian group continued to entertain us until George Bee gave the vote of thanks. We then sang Auld Lang Syne and bid our farewell and returned to our hotel. Half of the group retired to bed, while the other half crossed the road to a late night bar.
