At morning class at 7.05am it was confirmed that cars would be picking us up to go to game 1 at Capital curling club and returning us to the hotel to change into No. ones and on to the Lt. Governor’s house for lunch. Gage members would collect us to take us to game 2 at CFB Gage. The Sherrif then issued several fines and awarded the Tammie to George Paterson for endeavouring to outdo Frank Ross with his vote of thanks. Doddie was retained by Dalmore.
We were collected by 9 Capital members and take to the ice hall where we were welcomed at Capital’s 5 sheet venue by member and courier Wayne Tallon and a broom arch then piped on to the ice, where we sang Flower of Scotland. Tamnavulin were 2 down with hammer at the 8th end, but Doug Wilson’s final stone just clipped a guard and we lost a 2. Overall we came out of the morning games 2 shots down which given the calliber of the opposition was a good result. Unfortunately George Bee tripped going downstairs to change after the game and damaged his left knee. After a couple of drinks we returned to the hotel to change into our No. ones prior to going to the Lt. Governor of New Brunswicks house for a buffet lunch. We were greeting by Brenda Murphy and partner in the vast hall of their very large mansion which had numerous reception rooms and some took a tour of the property. After lunch and by request we performed our tour song and slippy shoes before being dropped off at our hotel by our Capital hosts.
We were then collected by the Gage curlers who took us to the ice hall in close convoy. We were welcomed with a broom arch and words from organiser Mat Munro. CFB Gage is the second largest military establishment in Canada and is host to 5th Canada Brigade. The club started in 1963 and has 240 members with a general manager Ben Noseworthy , icemen Shaun Riggs and Tom Cameron, catering by Allen McLaughlin and Gracie behind the bar.. We were piped onto the ice by member Ken and again sang Flower of Scotland. The ice was excellent and we managed to win to and lose two games, one of which was by Dalmore against Jamie Gratton, a major curling star.. Bruichladdich who were the bye team were given a tour of one of the batteries and heard all about the accuracy of the laser guided systems used. We then all changed into No. ones for the Rabbie Burns dinner at which mayor of Oromocto Bob Powell and MLA Mary Wilson were part of the top table.Andrew Ferguson gave the address to the haggis/ beef and we all enjoyed a fabulous meal. Part way through we were treated to an super display by the base drummers using fluorescent orange sticks. John Sinclair gave an excellent toast to the lassies and Dave Kingan read the poem to toothache. We then performed our sketch, tour song, slippy shoes and I have a dream. After a few more drinks our hosts drove us back to our hotel.
