Central : Friday 13th – Elgar & Fergus

Heavy snow overnight meant we shifted up morning classes by half an hour. In fact the highways were pretty clear and we made our way up country smoothly.

The Sherriff fined us all but ultimately Iain Buchanan got the tammy for holding up the bus as he had left his suit carrier behind. The standard had been set.  Alastair Fyfe’s suit carrier is still in Edinburgh but there are now plans to ensure it is in Toronto area soon.

Elora was quite rural town with the archetypal 4-sheet community ice rink. This is a very Scottish part of Canada, so we were warmly welcomed in a sea of tartan and we sang Flower of Scotland with some participation from the locals.

On the ice we suffered a small defeat, but we all felt there was better to come.

BLT sandwiches and soup for lunch before Jim gave the vote of thanks, and even sang us a wee song about his prize-winning appendage.

Moving on to the even more Scottish town of Fergus after lunch we were met by the mayor whose great-great-great-grandfather had built the original rink.  This was a great little club with a fantastic sense of humour – not only were the 4 urinals lined up Skip – Third- Second – Lead they had hung a wanted poster up the wall for the Scots Gang.

3 of the 4 teams won on the ice so we were happy and ready to party. And boy did we party!!

Fergus had hired an amazing two-piece band who played song after song after song, and we danced the night away. It was a great end to another great day on tour.
