East Tour Diary Day 4

At morning class Dougie outlined the day’s events at Lakeshore and Dartmouth with the requirement to be packed and on the bus by 8.30 and then Sherrif Rab issued fines and awarded the Tammie to John Sinclair for a serious overnight demeanour. We were greeted at Lakeshore with a broom arch and were piped on to the ice by Angus again. John Chisholm welcomed us to Lakeshore and President Kathy Piaget played the first stone. Tamnavulin and Fettercairn recorded good wins and although Bruichladdich and Dalmore lost we reduced the deficit by 8 shots. We were then treated to a delicious buffet lunch and then it was off to Dartmouth curling club for the second game of the day.

we arrived early at Dartmouth and had a short wait in the car park before being welcomed with a broom arch and Angus once again. We were then piped on to the ice where photos were recorded before the games commenced. As in the morning we recorded two wins for Fettercairn and Bruichladdich and two defeats, giving an overall plus 5 on the four games? We were treated to an excellent meal and speeches and captain Dougie was made “Big Dog” by the Sundowners. Fergus gave the vote of thanks and we then performed our tour song and Gavin Morton’s “I have a dream”, before getting on the bus to the airport for our flight to St.Johns.

Our flight was scheduled for 9.15, but was delayed to 10 and then 10.40 as a second pilot was on route from Toronto! There was then an announcement on the tannoy advising that our plane was overbooked. The inducement to change flights was 2,400 dollars, hotel accommodation and a flight to St John’s via Toronto! We eventually boarded our turbo prop, but then had to wait nearly an hour at the de-icer before taking off. We were met at the airport and taken to our hotel in St. Johns and eventually got to bed at 3.30am.
